With rapidly growing threats from unmanned aerial vehicles, anti-drone solutions are becoming one of the fastest growing trends in the security industry. There is an increasing focus on technologies for the protection of critical infrastructure and strategic facilities. The defence company AB Giraitė Armament Plant (GGG) is also entering the rapidly growing market of anti-drone technology.

Anti-drone cartridges for standard NATO weapons

GGG, together with partners from Latvia, developed anti-drone cartridges for the short-range defence zone.

GGG, responding to the expectation of the Ministry of Finance, as a shareholder, to expand the range of ammunition, is constantly looking for solutions and innovative technologies. The anti-drone solution was developed on the basis of the recommendations of the Ministry of National Defence, also in developing the technology the know-how accumulated in Ukraine was taken into account.

“Countering unmanned aerial systems is becoming one of the biggest challenges in the modern war, and Lithuania offers a solution for this. We are among the first in the European Union to start producing anti-drone cartridges. We hope that this innovation we offer will be appreciated by European armies and anti-drone cartridges will become an important part of their arsenal”, Minister of Finance Kristupas Vaitiekūnas says. The product was tested in cooperation with the Lithuanian Armed Forces. During the tests, the solution was also examined also in the GGG’s open and closed ballistic shooting ranges to ensure maximum efficiency under realistic conditions.

NATO standard solutions

GGG anti-drone cartridges are for standard 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm NATO weapons.

“Anti-drone cartridges with a 5.56 mm calibre operate effectively at a distance of 50 metres, while the 7.62 mm calibre solution is designed for targets up to 100 metres away. Such a technical solution allows to ensure effective neutralization of drones in different defence scenarios”, GGG Quality Head Aivaras Grigaliūnas said.

Tests in Lithuania and first steps to Western Europe

“The first test batches of anti-drone cartridges have already been sent to partners in Sweden and France, where technological examinations and practical tests are being carried out. This is an

important step in expanding export destinations and strengthening our position in Europe”, Head of the GGG Plant Mindaugas Kurauskas said.

Anti-drone cartridges are designed not only for military structures, but also for border control and security of strategic objects.

For cooperation – invitation to contact the GGG

“Currently, we are actively expanding our network of testing and implementing anti-drone solutions in Europe and are looking for long-term partners in different markets. We invite to cooperate defence and public sector organisations searching for effective anti-drone solutions”, GGG Sales Manager Ramūnas Gelčys said.
